Terms and Conditions of Sale
Last updated: 25 October 2026
These terms apply to every purchase made at hjscomics.com (the "Shop"). By placing an order, the customer declares that they have read and accept them. If the English translation differs from the Portuguese version, the Portuguese version prevails.
1. Who sells
The HJSComics Shop is operated by STRATEGY AND METHOD, LDA, a private limited company, tax and registration number 518096998, registered at the Conservatória do Registo Comercial de Gondomar, share capital 4.000,00 € (fully paid up), registered office at Travessa José Ferreira Marques 13, 4620-912 Lousada, Portugal.

2. What we sell
The Shop sells used and collectible comic books, including signed copies, copies with a sketch, and graded copies (slabs). Each copy is a unique item and only one copy exists.
The photos show the actual copy that will be sent. Where a description of condition is given, it is our assessment; normal signs of age or handling that are described in the listing or visible in the photos are not a lack of conformity.
For graded copies, the grade is the opinion of the grading company named (for example CGC or CBCS), not our own assessment.
For signed copies, each listing states who signed and how the signature is authenticated (for example witnessed by the seller, certificate of authenticity or third-party authentication). We do not claim authentication that does not exist.
3. Prices, VAT and shipping
Prices are in euros and include VAT at the rate in force (6%, applied in Portugal, including the autonomous regions, and to sales to consumers in other EU Member States). For orders shipped outside the European Union, VAT is not charged.
Shipping is calculated from the parcel weight and the destination country and is shown in the cart before payment. The total to pay, with VAT and shipping, is always shown before the customer confirms the order.
For shipments outside the European Union, the destination country's authorities or the carrier may charge the recipient customs duties, import taxes and clearance fees. These are not included in the price and are the customer's responsibility.
4. How to order
The customer adds copies to the cart, chooses the country and shipping method, enters their details and address, accepts these terms and presses the button "Order with obligation to pay", and is then redirected to Stripe's secure payment page. You can buy without creating an account.
Because each copy is unique, when it is added to the cart we reserve it for the customer for 15 minutes (the reservation renews while the customer browses, up to a maximum of 30 minutes) and, once payment has started, for as long as needed to complete it. If the reservation ends without payment, the copy becomes available to other customers again.
The order is accepted when payment is confirmed. Because copies are also sold through other channels, if a copy is no longer available despite the reservation, we cancel the order (or the affected part) and immediately refund the amount paid in full, including the corresponding shipping.
5. Payment
We accept cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay and, in Portugal, MB WAY and Multibanco. Payments are processed by Stripe; card details never pass through our servers.
For Multibanco reference payments, the reference is valid for 3 days. If payment is not made in that time, the order is cancelled and the copies become available again.
6. Shipping and delivery
Orders are shipped by CTT (registered mail, in Portugal) or DHL (all other countries), according to the method chosen in the cart. We do not accept orders to some countries because of carrier restrictions or sanctions; these countries do not appear in the list of destinations.
We deliver without undue delay and in any case within 30 days of the order, unless otherwise indicated. The estimated time of each method is shown in the cart. See the Shipping and returns page for more.
The risk of loss of or damage to the copies passes to the customer only when the customer, or a third party they have named (other than the carrier), takes physical possession of the goods.
7. Right of withdrawal
A consumer may withdraw from the contract, without giving a reason, within 14 days of the day they receive the goods (or, for an order with several copies delivered separately, the last of them).
To withdraw, you can use the "Withdraw from contract here" button, which is in the footer of every page of the Shop and does not need an account, or send an unambiguous statement by email or letter to the contacts above. You immediately receive a confirmation with the date and time of the statement.
We must refund all payments received, including standard shipping costs, within 14 days of the day we are informed of the decision to withdraw. We may wait until we have received the goods, or proof that they have been sent back, and the refund is made using the same payment method as the purchase.
The consumer must return the goods without delay and no later than 14 days after telling us of the withdrawal, to the address given on the Shipping and returns page. The direct cost of returning the goods is borne by the consumer. We recommend registered, tracked shipping in packaging that protects the copy, and that graded copies are not taken out of their case.
The consumer is liable for any reduction in the value of the goods resulting from handling other than what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning.
8. Legal guarantee of conformity
The copies are used goods. As the law allows, the customer is informed and agrees, by accepting these terms, that the legal guarantee period is 18 months from delivery.
If a copy does not conform to its description, the customer is entitled, as the law provides, to have conformity restored (repair or replacement where possible), a price reduction or termination of the contract. To exercise this right, contact us with photos at the contacts above.
During the first year after delivery, a lack of conformity that becomes apparent is presumed to have existed at the time of delivery.
9. Complaints and dispute resolution
We have an electronic Complaints Book: https://www.livroreclamacoes.pt. You can also write to us at hugo.sanches@icarusintelligence.com.
In a consumer dispute, the consumer may use an alternative dispute resolution body for consumer disputes, for example TRIAVE – Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo do Ave, Tâmega e Sousa (https://www.triave.pt), or another competent body. The list of bodies is available on the Portuguese Consumer Portal (www.consumidor.gov.pt).
10. Personal data
We process personal data in accordance with the Privacy Policy, available in the footer of every page.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Where the customer is a consumer living in another country, the mandatory consumer protection rules of the law of their country of habitual residence continue to apply. Any dispute may be brought before the competent courts.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. Each order is governed by the version in force when it is placed, which is recorded on the order.
